The Fat Files is about more than just body and size love and acceptance,
where ever there is an injustice there you will find me.  So when I read the
story on Yahoo about the town of Cordova, Alabama I thought, “I just have to
write about this!”

On April 27 two tornado’s tore through the town and distroyed most of the
town.  People have been displaced ever since but it seems that relief came in
the form of a FEMA single wide trailer.  You know the ones, the trailers that
everyone begged for after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and if you are paying
attention, many are still living in even though they were only meant to be
shelter for about 18 months.

The town of Cordova breathed a sigh of relief, that is until Mayor Jack Scott
said no-no!

Like a lot of towns in the South, Cordova banned the use of single wide
trailer homes about three years ago allowing only the existing ones to be
grandfathered in.  Mayor Scott’s argument is that he does not want run down
trailers lingering in the town, but it seems that what’s good for the goose is
not so good for the gander.  While its not OK for residents to use the trailers
it IS OK for the city to use them, and use them they have, the
Cordova Police Department, City Hall, a pharmacy and a bank have all taken
refuge in the same single wide trailers causing many of the towns residents to
call for the removal of the mayor.

Some residents have even gone so far as to say that they are considering
packing up what little they have and leaving Cordova for good.  What a shame,
how sad that this place that is suppose to be home is forcing away its residents
all over temporary disaster housing.

Shame on you Cordova, Alabama!

What would you do if faced with this situation, forced from your home from
storms and homeless and told you can not use the only form of housing the
government is providing?
